For many years the communities of Yarrawonga and Mulwala have agreed that a heated indoor pool is a high priority. Families involved in Basketball are also aware of a need for a properly compliant stadium.

The Yarrawonga Mulwala Strategic Development Team identified a sporting complex comprising all year indoor swimming and sports stadium as a high priority for our community. The Yarrawonga Aquatic and Recreational Club (YARC) was formed, the main drivers coming from the Rotary Club of Yarrawonga-Mulwala and representatives from Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball Association, Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club. A community survey received a huge response, which demonstrated the wide ranging support and depth of feeling about the need for such a resource

Members of the YARC Committee have made a several presentations to the Moira Shire and currently their support for such a facility is not forthcoming.

If you haven't already joined YARC please give it some consideration. Membership is only $10 and by joining you are showing your personal commitment to this much needed facility

Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club was represented by 6 swimmers at the 2015 Victorian Country Short Course Championships held at Ballarat on the 22 and 23 August 2015.

The weekend started with the swimmers having a warm up in Ballarat’s new $14 million Indoor Aquatic Centre on the Friday night. The club was privileged to be able to conduct a session with no other swimmers in the new centre.

Results from the meet were fantastic with the swimmers competing in a total of 17 events and achieving 16 personal best (PB) times. This was more than any other Ovens and Murray Swimming Club.

Head Coach Lyndon Hart stated “I am thrilled with the results from the meet and to have 94% of swims a PB time is a credit to the swimmers and their strength both mentally and physically.”

“There were many highlights of the meet including the encouragement swimmers gave each other and Hugh Mullins swimming a seven second PB in the 100m Freestyle in his last event on Sunday afternoon,” said Lyndon.

Swimmers are now back in the water training and developing their technique with the aim of qualifying for the 2016 Victorian Country Long Course Championships in January 2016, which are being held in Bendigo.

Tuesday the 28th, we were lucky enough to have a session with Nunawading swimmers Rebecca and Liam.

The session was based around turns and drills. The tips they gave us were very helpful and the swimmers learnt a lot about how to get the most out of every turn.

Big thankyou to Sharon for providing all swimmers with a bacon and egg breakfast afterwards to round off a successful countries weekend.

Thankyou to Rebecca and Liam for sharing their expertise with us!
